OSADC Dive:
July 13-14, 2019 (Rain or Shine)
Divers & Guests meet by 10:00 am at the Willow Springs Scuba Center office (at the entrance).
Location:
The quarry ( http://www.willowspringspark.com/), is a 2.5 hour drive from the Olney Swim Center. It’s a long day trip and there are several reasonable motels (Scandia Motel has a diver discount, Quality Inn) and restaurants nearby (Porch Pub http://www.porchrestaurant.com/) . They may also allow camping at the site. We will need to contact the owner if anyone is interested.
Directions:
Google, Yahoo Maps or Internet search (see website above) will get you the driving details or GPS information. In general terms, the quarry is East of Harrisburg, PA, near Lebanon and Meyerstown, PA.
Admission:
The quarry opens at 9:00 am. Check-in at the Dive Shop.
You will need to provide the following:
C-card (staff will hold it until you complete your dives)
Quarry Waiver available on-site
Admission Fee: $30.00/day
General Information:
If interested, you can plan on diving 1 or 2 days. We are planning on 2 dives each day and will meet both days by 10:00 am at the quarry dive shop. Gorgeous bathrooms, showers, changing rooms with heated tile floors are available (these are not Millbrook quality facilities). A full service dive shop (air fills, rentals, etc) is available on-site.
Water temps: Surface~75°F; 45 ft~55°F ; Viz: ~10-20 ft. A 7.0 mm wetsuit and dive light are recommended.
The dive site (surface) is an attractive setting and very well maintained. (A visit to the bathhouse is worth the trip). The ‘Quest’ is a 72 ft, wooden, ex-fishing trawler that sits in 42 ft of water. It is a major attraction and easy to navigate with it’s 65 ft mast visible at the surface. Abandoned mining equipment and railroad tracks are still intact. There are plenty of underwater attractions to explore as seen in the map below:
